Silho Furniture, a modern furnishings showroom was formed in the summer of 2002. Silho introduced its first line of upholstery and case goods designed by Michelle Johnson and Jason Martin, sold exclusively through the Los Angeles showroom. The partnership also includes an interior design practice and custom furniture manufacturing. Silho's style has evolved from a blend of classic proportions and modern lines. The designs are a mix of classic American modern and the simplicity of organic silhouettes. Silho Furniture is committed to a high standard of craftsmanship, environmentally sound production and attention to detail. Each piece is handmade by a skilled craftsman specific to the customer's needs.
Michelle and Jason's relationship began while working in the retail and residential design industry. The partners recognized a shared value in aesthetics and customer service which combined with their backgrounds in interior design and art lead them to pursue their true passion. Their inspiration from textures, light, and natural materials helped create their furniture line with simple elegant forms. The discipline of paring down a design to its most basic form, or silhouette also defined the company's name, Silho.
Michelle's background is in interior design with a focus on furniture design. She is a graduate of University of San Francisco and later earned a degree in Interior Design from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
Jason's worked as a creative director for a retail company and managed a furniture design studio. He studied art history and architectural design at El Centro College of the Arts.
