New Zealand is the only country other than Chile with an increasing timber resource.
Working in association with Shands Road Sawmills Ltd of Christchurch, D M Palmer exports significant quantities of high quality cut of log sawn lumber to regular and substantial markets in Japan , Thailand, China, Vietnam and South East Asia. This high quality cut of log timber is cut to precise sizes and fine tolerances. It is kiln dried to make it suitable for use in high quality furniture and packaging applications.
During 2000 Shands Road Sawmills invested in a new sawmill, which has resulted in a dramatic increase in production volumes and material improvements in quality and accuracy. The use of predominantly small diameter logs results in small knot size. timber can be supllied with or without pith.
As New Zealand's resource increases this business will continue to grow strongly.
