ESTABLISHMENT OF FAIR FRIEND GROUP
Fair Friend Group was established on Mar. 15, 1979. Since its beginning stage 18 years ago, the company was the agent for one of the biggest steel companies in Japan, KOBE STEEL, which has a annual turnover of over US$1 billion. Since its establishment, the FAIR FRIEND GROUP have been constantly expanding its operations into different angles of the business world based on its corporate philosophy "RELIABILITY AND SUSTAINED MANAGEMENT". New products and new markets have been developed with much intensive R&D effort in pursuit of excellence in quality. The ultimate is to serve the general public with better products and services.
OVERSEAS JOINT-VENTURES To meet the demands of its customers and gain a leading position in the market,the Fair Friend Group has been cooperating with world-famous manufacturers. This has increased the competitiveness off Fair Friends products in the global market. In 1986, Fair Friend and the world No. 2 die casting Ryobi Limited in Japan, whose annual turnover toppled US$ 2.1 billion, jointly set up Ryobi Tech Corp. in Taiwan to manufacture door closer and floor hinges. In 1988, FAIRSKQ (TAIWAN) Co., Ltd. was established under the joint venture of Fair Friend and SKF MEKAN,the worlds biggest bearing manufacturer, to produce bearing housings. The factories are set up in Taiwan and Thailand. Taiwan Iwata Industrial Corp., jointly set up by Fair Friend and Japans Iwata Air Compressor Manufacturing Ltd., has been since producing spraying guns since its establishment in 1989. It is now marketing through out Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia and enjoys over 70% of the growing market share.
FAIR FRIEND MACHINE TOOLS
Among its various products, the most outstanding achievement of Fair Friend is its research and development in machine tools. The Machine Tools Division of Fair Friend was established in 1985. At its beginning stage, the main products were sawing machines and grinding machines. However, the management observed the trend toward high automation and un-manned operation in machine tools industry already at that time. At the same year, the development in CNC machine tools was launched and the brand name FEELER was established for the overseas marketing. In 1986, the first moving column vertical machining center in Taiwan was completed and highly regarded by the market. After this success, the development CNC lathes was launched in order to completed the FEELER product line.
In 1993, Fair Friend succeed in the manufacturing system integration. As local economy was in a transformation stage and peoples lack of willingness in hard labor jobs, the labor shortage has become a problem for Taiwanese businesses. Foreseeing this tread, Fair Friend developed the first Taiwanese flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The system has been delivered to a well-known Taiwanese automobile manufacturer for unmanned production. Another set was delivered to a foreign mechanical institute for education purposes.
The R&D ability of Fair Friend Machine Tools Division plays a major role in the fast growth of Fair Friend machine tools market share. Every year, Fair Friend invested around 4% of its annual turnover in the R&D. Furthermore, the R&D staff account for 22% of the total work force. The R&D staff members are well trained and educated. They are considered better than their piers of other Taiwanese manufacturers. In addition, Fair Friend also cooperates with many technical institutes on many new development projects in order to maintain its technical competitiveness.
With the efforts in its pursuit of excellence and the strong R&D force, FEELER products has won various awards over the years. From the Machine Tool Innovation Award, "CHENG" mark, ISO-9002 quality assurance certificate, to certified supplier for defense products. All these awards has established has contributed to the highly regarded image of FEELER machine tools, which has risen to compete with other leading manufacturers in Taiwan. In 1994, FEELER machine tools won the National Gold Award of Excellence. It is the first and only time that this award has been granted to an industrial product manufacturer. Moreover, FEELER machines won the National Award of Excellence in the following 2 consecutive years. In 1996, Fair Friend Machine Tools Division received the Industrial Development Award granted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of ROC. All these honors and awards proved that Fair Friends emphasis of innovation in R&D has paid off over the years.
FAIR FRIEND MACHINE TOOLS: AIMING AT GLOBAL COMPETITION
In order to reduce the production costs and enhance product competitiveness, Fair Friend started the construction of its factory in Shaw Shan Industrial Park in southern China. The first stage of the construction was completed in 1996. It will soon be serving the immense market in China. Also in 1996, Fair Friend acquired Sakazak Machinery Co., Ltd. in order to gain access to the manufacturing technology and R&D ability of high accuracy machine tools of Japan. This will be the strong technical support for both Taiwan and China operations. By combining the capital, technology, and market territory of Taiwan and Japan and integrating the advantages of different areas, Fair Friends machine tools products will be more internationalized and thus become a major player in the global machine tools market.
